really getting sick and fucking tired of people writting articles about sam cap and the female thor as illusions of progress and not respecting what they actually mean

yes these are partially marketing ploys but one thing these articles never mention is why the fuck they matter

we’re at a time when nerd culture is pop culture, where theres a much larger comic fanbase dude to the 2012 avengers and captain america: winter soldier(tell me im wrong go ahead)

because of this time events of the comic world impact the real world and why things like the new captaian america and thor were televised publicly

yes i know that was DEFFINETLY for marketing reasons but that has a lasting effect

the new thor and captain america continued after their anouncements where covered by news stations on multiple ocasions

these events were publisized to a young audience who is not only craving representative media but also super heros, so when they hear ALL NEW FEMALE THOR and SAM WILSON IS THE NEXT CAPTAIN AMERICA they get to place themselfs into the titles of their favorite heros they get to identify with the superhero culture they adore and they get to se some one LIKE THEM some one LOOKS LIKE THEM in their superhero world, they get extatic

and yes i want to acknowledge that not only are these motives marketing ploys and yes they may apear like pandering to us in the teen to young adult demographic

but when a little black boy can dress up as captain america and not be ridiculed or when a little girl grows up thinking shes worthy enough to weild mjölnir or when an islamic girl thinks she can be a hero in a world that seems to be built on hating her

i want you to look me in the eye and tell me this is what the illusion of progress looks like
